The largest, regional mall is set to open in Cape Town, with retails giants Checkers, H&M and Pick & Pay already confirmed.
The Table Bay Mall will boast over 65 000m ² retail space, with over 150 stores and restaurants to be present when it opens on September 28th, 2017. Servicing the sprawling hub of the Big Bay, Bloubergstrand, Parklands, Sunningdale and West Beach areas, it will be the largest regional mall of its kind and will be located on a 20-hectare property on the edge of Sunningdale, along the R27 (West Coast Road).
On the shopping front, a mix of local and international retailers will have a presence at the mall, of which some will be flagship stores. Over 3000 parking bays, both outside and undercover, have been made available when the new space opens its doors next month.
What is refreshing about the construction of it is that a very ‘green’ approach has been considered from the ground up. Innovative technologies have been utilized – including that of water-saving and power-saving elements incorporated into its design. It has been forecast that over 8000 jobs will be created from its opening – with another 5000 created since its inception.
According to Director at Vivid Architects, Imraan Ho-Yee, the Mall’s design also has an immense pedestrian edge.
“The building’s long facade that faces onto the forecourt parking area is an active facade operating as a busy high street, tenanted by lively interesting shop fronts and feature restaurants”.
The mall has been built on a single level to ensure easy navigation for shoppers, and a fresh, modern aesthetic will be noticeable throughout – coupled with a maritime theme as a nod to the mall’s location not far from the sea.
