The Table Mountain Cableway will be closed for the scheduled annual maintenance from 23 July to 5 August 2018 in order to ensure the safety of millions of visitors that visit the towering and beautiful World Heritage site.
Table Mountain is a must-visit destination for tourists and locals in the Mother city. The Cableway wants to ensure that visitors are able to make it safely to the mountain and enjoy efficient services along the way.
Cableway Managing Director Wahida Parker said, “Safety and security is paramount to us”.
The maintenance includes checking all mechanisms of the service. “To maintain the highest standards set for cable cars by the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways we will be closing to the public in order to clean the ropes, run slack ropes tests and measurement, do break and load testing, and cabin alignment and checks” said Parker.
The main gearbox, generators and backup generators along with general component changes and control checks.
Once reopened, visitors can expect to see upgrades to the seating and flooring of the Table Mountain café. The Cableway has safely transported visitors for 88 years and will continue to do so.
Visitors whose birthday’s fall between the maintenance period dates are allowed to redeem their free cableway ticket after the service reopens or prior to the closure.
Season Specials
The Cableway is running a winter special for winter and includes a three-for-one kids which runs seven days a week. The season discount will run until 24 September 2018. The special is only available to local South Africans and offers a huge savings for families with R250 per ticket for adults.
