A Capetonian taxi driver was caught in an unusual way after he refused to stop when he was approached by City of Cape Town (COCT ) traffic officials.

In a statement by Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith which was shared via JWI News on Facebook, he indicated that assistance was called in as COCT Traffic vehicles were in pursuit of a Minibus Taxi from New Market Street Woodstock.

According to Smith, the driver then stopped his minibus taxi on the N2 outgoing after Raapenberg, jumped out and ran towards the Blackriver between Jan Smuts and Raapenberg.

“Taxi driver jumped into the river and placed a plastic bag so that he could not be spotted. However, COCT CCTV Camera operators spotted the suspect in the water from one of the CCTV cameras and officers jumped into the water and arrested the suspect,” Smith said.
