Cape Town is home to the exclusive and one of a kind, College of Magic – where magicians learn to hone in on their skills and talents. It is sometimes referred to as the Hogwarts of Africa, as it produces some of the best wizards.
The College of Magic received the 2018 Shared Secrets Allan Slaight award in June – they are the first organisation to receive an award from the foundation. It recognises individuals for their exceptional commitment and innovation in magic. The organisation traditionally gives the award to an individual, but the College of Magic has been an exception to the rule. Allan Slaight is a magician who is renowned in the wizardry community for his passion and dedication.
The award is a prestigious accolade and recognises the local talent that Cape Town has to offer – we may not have Harry Potter but we have a school of budding Houdini’s that are ready to thrill and entertain as they perform illusions.
Founded in 1980 by David Gore, the College of Magic is one of the most prestigious organisations in magic and has a long standing reputation in the industry. It is a non-profit organisation that provides courses for kids and adults to allow creativity and imagination to thrive.
The College of Magic took to Facebook to share their thankfulness in receiving the honour. “Congratulations to the College of Magic, this year’s recipient for the Sharing Secrets Allan Slaight Award. It is very moving to see so many young people positively changed through magic!” – the post read.
