Cape Town Etc’s Robyn Simpson ventured into the city last night to join in the festivities First Thursdays always promises. Expectations of social distancing and sanitiser joined the art in becoming an abstract notion – open to interpretation.

Galleries flooded, drinks flowed and music set the scene for a night absent of any COVID-19 safety regulations. It would seem as though Cape Town’s youth have been locked up too long to care.

Bree Street and Long Street in particular boomed with overcrowded restaurants and bars. It was a night that could be described as “pre-pandemic”, writes Robyn Simpson. Check it out for yourself.

The question now becomes: could First Tursdays have been better policed or is this the new norm?
