After crashing their vehicle during a chase with police and security companies in Table View, three of the most notorious crowbar burglars have been arrested and are now behind bars.
At 10.45am on Monday January 14, Table View police received information that a car seen used in housebreakings was driving in Blaauwberg Road towards the West Coast Road, Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana told IOL.
Armed response officers and police then started a search for a vehicle that fit the description they had received. After finding and observing what appeared to be the criminals’ car, a white VW Polo, and attempting communication with its three occupants, “the vehicle drove into a security vehicle in an attempt to evade arrest but was immediately stopped,” said Rwexana.
“The vehicle was approached with caution and the occupants were instructed to exit the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and officers discovered a flat-screen TV, other electronic devices and jewellery inside the vehicle. The registration number of the vehicle did not match the license disc.”
As reported by IOL, the suspects told police they had broken into a home in Kuils River earlier that morning and had been planning to break into two more houses in Table View. The three also allegedly bragged about where they would next strike while they were being thrown into their cells.
Confirming the Kuils River burglary, Rwexana says footage at the burglars’ home address shows the same vehicle used in both the Kuils River and Table View housebreakings.
“A short while later, the property found inside the vehicle was linked to a house break-in which had occurred in Flamingo Vlei on the same day. The vehicle has also been linked to burglaries in the Bellville area.”
The suspects, who are in their early twenties, will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court after being charged.
