There seems to be no peace in the taxi industry following several suspected taxi-related shootings on Tuesday, July 13. According to IOL, an alleged taxi driver who sustained gunshot wounds was taken to a nearby hospital while a 42-year-old man was shot and wounded in Mew Way, Khayelitsha. A 39-year-old man was also shot dead in Bukwayo Road in Harare.

The body of a 45-year-old man was discovered in the driver’s seat of his vehicle in Symphony Way near Blikkiesdorp.
Police are on scene where a taxi driver was gunned down in his vehicle this morning temporal houses relocation on Delft. The name of the driver is not yet confirmed.

Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi indicated that SAPS also attended to a scene near Sarah Baartman where a suspected taxi driver was shot in both legs.
Some minibus taxis are also not operating in some parts of the City as shooting incidents have also left several people injured.

Tuesday’s shooting brings the total number of taxi-related murders to 76 since the beginning of the year. Police have also urged anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
Meanwhile, MEC for Transport and Public Works, Daylin Mitchell appealed to the taxi associations to bring some calmness in order to keep commuters safe.
