A man is reported to have been electrocuted while riding on the top of a Metrorail train early on Wednesday morning. The train was travelling from the Philippi station towards Cape Town.
Speaking to TimesLIVE, the train’s driver, Vuyokazi Jaxa, said that she was told to stop the train because there was a fire on top of it. “When I stopped, we realised there was a man on top of the train who had been electrocuted,” she said.
Firefighters reportedly fled to the scene, which was cordoned off by City of Cape Town Law Enforcement Officers.
The Philippi station on the Cape Town Central Line has been closed following the incident.
Passengers have been urged to make use of the Kapteinsklip train station to travel to Cape Town.
While emergency services and SAPS attended to the passenger, train traffic is temporarily suspended to allow ambulance access. Delays of up to 90-120 mins are expected. pic.twitter.com/tCCQKvFGM7
