Three men have been arrested and will appear in court on Monday, October 5 for allegedly kidnapping two Chinese nationals.
The incident occurred on Friday, October 2. Two women, aged 51 and 34, were allegedly kidnapped in Delft on September 25 and were found in an informal structure in Gugulethu on Friday morning. The 51-year-old woman was already dead, according to the police. They believe she might have tried to escape before being killed, and the cause of death is being investigated.
Police spokesperson Andre Traut: “The exact cause of her death and the motive for the kidnapping are yet to be determined. Police arrested three suspects aged 26, 32, and 34 who are detained until their court appearance on Monday.”
According to the Gugulethu Community Policing Forum’s Sonwabile Magida, the women were kidnapped and held for ransom.
“They kidnapped them and they took them to Barcelona. They said to the family of those Chinese women if they want their family they must give them R5 million,” Magida said.
