Two Construction workers were shot with one in both his legs and the other in the chest who is fighting for his life, reported human settlement mayoral committee member, Malus Booi.

Western Cape police are now investigating the case of “attempted murder” as per News24 after the shooting took place by unknown suspects.

According to Booi, This is the fourth targeted shooting incident with malicious intent toward the Beacon Valley Housing Project in Mitchell’s Plain IOL writes.

According to the housing settlements department as per News24, this was also the second time petrol bombing was used to damage the construction plant.

Booi described the attack as “unacceptable, heartbreaking and totally callous.”

The latest incident happened on Wednesday, June 7 which according to Booi was 24 hours after contractors had moved back to the site following the previous shootings.

According to the Mitchell’s Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF) as per News 24, the two potential reasons for the attacks are either extortion or the allocation of contracts.

Chairman Norman Jantjies expressed these concerns to the publication and went on to express that “some people resort to violence” as a result of the City not involving the community in decision-making processes.

Jantjies added that alongside the tragedy of what happened, it is also “unfortunate that people will now wait even longer to move into their new homes that the City is building for them.”
