A man fell approximately 10 metres from a cave below the Chapman’s Peak lookout point at around 8pm yesterday, February 4. The Western Cape Search and Rescue team was called out and rescued the man, according to IOL.
“Technical climbers used ropes to reach him and paramedics attended to the man, who didn’t need to be put onto a stretcher,” said the team’s spokesperson, Johan Marais. “The man did not sustain serious injuries and the process to bring him back up to the road started around 10.30pm,” Marais added.
There is no confirmation as to how the incident occurred.
In an unrelated incident, a man sustained severe injuries after falling from the Sea Point Promenade yesterday afternoon [February 4]. According to IOL, the City’s Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene and used ropes to reach the man on the rocks below. He was then taken to the New Somerset Hospital after being treated.
Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said the man had been walking with a friend at the time that the incident occurred.
