For the first time in 44 years, a Capetonian has won the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon. This feat was last accomplished in 1973 by Don Hartley.

Kudos to our very own Lungile Gongqa, who finished the gruelling 56km race in three hours, nine minutes and 36 seconds.

The 2017 Two Oceans Marathon saw 11 000 athletes participate in the full marathon, while 16 000 entries were tallied for the half.

Here is a selection of the day’s best moments.

Well done to this man ??? he set a new record…. Teach us your ways Lungile, school us! #OMTOM2017
