It would seem that Uber are making some serious waves in the city. I personally love using the service and see their business model as a step forward in the right direction, but the local taxi industry is up in arms over Uber’s alleged ‘inadequate operating licences’. Roads were blocked yesterday as metered cab drivers, of the traditional variety, protested against Uber and their ‘flouting’ of the law.
Is this just another case of video killed the radio star and is the traditional taxi industry dying a slow death? Are protests like these only prolonging the inevitable? Read more here.
There are a horde of activities happening in Cape Town and surrounds this weekend. I highly doubt that the rain forecast for tomorrow will be putting a dampener on any of them. From the J&B Met to Origin Festival to Up The Creek, there will be a little something for everybody. But first, we will be at Assembly tonight for Shadowclub.
Have a terrific weekend!
Cheers,
Justin
