Capetonians have rallied together to do their best to contribute toward the search for missing University of Cape Town (UCT) student, Uyinene Mrwetyana. Affectionately known as “Nene”, the 19-year-old has been missing for the past three days.

According to the Pink Ladies, an organisation that releases posters of missing persons to aid police in finding them, Nene was last seen leaving Roscommon House – a residence of UCT – in Claremont’s Main Road. She was said to have been making her way to Mowbray to have her nails done when she disappeared at approximately 1.30pm.

A hashtag has gained popularity on major social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, in an effort to spur authorities into working harder to track Nene down and bring her back home safely. Many UCT students have also united to offer one another and Nene support until her return, actively holding prayer circles and solidarity marches across common spaces at the university.

She was last seen wearing a pair of baggy brown corduroy trousers with a black handbag. She also has a pierced septum.
