The fire on the mountain slopes of Simon’s Town has been brought under control after it ignited in the early hours of Monday.

At least 50 firefighters battled the blaze.

The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services were assisted by helicopters.

“More than 50 firefighters from TMNP/contract wildfire crews and City of Cape Town were deployed on the fire line with assistance from two aerial support helicopters from the South African National Defence Force,” Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) Fire Manager Philip Prins said.

The fire was brought under control at around 11:00 and aerial support stood down.

No injuries were reported.

Two weeks ago, a devastating fire started on Table Mountain and destroyed parts of the University of Cape Town (UCT) campus.
