With the shaky economy and political tensions that are currently rocking our country, it is easy to over look the good things that do happen, particularly here in Cape Town. This holiday saw a big boost in international visitors, and our beautiful Cape Point has greatly benefited from this.
During peak season, Cape Point experienced a 7.2% increase in the number of visitors. Not only that, the Flying Dutchman Funicular, which takes visitors from the lower station at the Cape Point parking lot to the upper lighthouse and view points, saw visitor numbers increase by 15.45%.
This increase is partly due to the increase of international visitors to our shores, but a big, more important reason for this is an increase in locals visitors going to explore our many attractions. This makes us here at Cape Town ETC very happy.
We are lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, filled with great places like Cape Point, and we should take advantage of it. Not only for our own amusement, although that is a bonus, but also to benefit our city. Supporting our parks and businesses is a great way to ensure our city grows from strength to strength.

Well at R24 to the GBP and R17 to the USD this is a cheap place to have a holiday
Which makes Capetonians lives more difficult as all the restaurants put up their prices, food prices soar.
Don’t think anywhere is cheap, but compared to the international options it’s definitely better to holiday domestically.
Well, it costs my family of four over R400 to gain access to cape point…… So its obviously just a place for tourists to visit.
If you earn GBP and USD or EUR this is cheap
Yers. You can see them being blown back to Fish Hoek. Nogal funny hearing kak man in Cantonese.
only civilized city in SA
i suppose Gauteng qualifies as ‘international’
Cape Town Etc rubbish, it’s cheaper for a CT family to go to Thailand and have 2 weeks in a decent hotel on the beach than the same 2 weeks in Durban or vice versa. SA is a rip off for us locals and we can’t afford to holiday here. Don’t even mention the expensive national parks and the outrageous private game reserves.
too expensive for locals.
Reagan u must get a green card. It costs R105.00 and u get 12 visits. So your family of 4 could go there 3 times a year and it will only cost R105.00.
Cheap compared to Kenya or Tanzania.
That could be another spot where the “Zuma must fall” banner could be suspended …..
oe! dis mooi
Was always one of my favourite places to spend a day when I still lived in Cape Town. Pure unspoilt beauty with a rich historical interest in the form of visible shipwrecks. Tokai Forest and the library in the Gardens area as well as the cemetary at Simonstown also were well worth a visit anytime.
One of the most beautiful places, proudly Capetonian!
Just returned home to Oz after 4 weeks in Cape Town! Fav place in the world to holiday, great for Aussie dollar conversion and yes expensive for people earning the rand!
I come up with alotta great ideas and then ppl just tend to follow me…
And they only have 3 ticket sellers to get in. They must wake up. Same as Boulders.
And I know two of them, don’t I, Sally Walters and John Walters.
At the prices they charge I’m supprised
South Africans get yourself and your SA ID to the office and buy a card for R125 giving you 12 entries. CHEAP CHEAP so no more moans from SA locals!!!!!
Beautiful photo, remember the sandy beach in the left … Monica Oleastro Gabriel Oleastro U0001f499
Until they realise the extortionist cost, then they never return, and they spread the word. Such a short-sighted approach to rip off customers!
Exactly! And that’s just the entry fee. There’s still petrol for whatever distance you need to drive, for me it’s around 90km one way!
Also tired of all the moaning! People will go to a restaurant and spend money eating a meal that lasts for 30 minutes but moan about spending R400 to go to a amazing place which children can learn so much from! Surely Cape Point is a place that one would only visit once a year!
This cape point is dam expensive its 110 kilometre if start in city. It ridiculous to pay som much to experience a good look out onto nature . Ag dont talk about that refreshment shop another rip off.
