The Pietermaritzburg High Court will hear former President Jacob Zuma’s request on Tuesday, July 6 for a stay of his prison sentence pending the outcome of his rescission application in the Constitutional Court.

This comes after the Constitutional Court sentenced Zuma to 15 months in prison for being in contempt of court as a result of not attending the State Capture Commission to honour a subpoena.

Zuma held a press conference at his Nkandla homestead in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday, July 4, where he claimed that the finding of the Constitutional Court to send him to jail at the age of 79 during the Covid-19 pandemic was the same as a death sentence, IOL reports.

“Being jailed without a trial is no different to the apartheid detention without trial,” Zuma added.
