Goosebumps. That’s how we felt after seeing the long-standing Tulip Hotel come crashing down from a planned implosion this morning by Ross Demolition and Jet Demolition.
We ventured up Strand Street, coffee in hand, to witness the implosion of what some have dubbed the ‘worst hotel’ in Cape Town. A large number of people gathered on each side of the exclusion zone as music drifted over the loudspeaker, the sound carrying eerily through the backstreets of the CBD as we all waited anxiously.
After a brief explanation by a speaker from one of the demolition companies, a siren began to wail that marked a minute and half to go before the big bang. And what a bang it was.
