According to the latest provincial COVID-19 report, the Western Cape has 4624 active COVID-19 infections, with a total number of 295 981 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 279 512 recoveries as of Friday, June 4.

Here is a breakdown of the province’s COVID-19 figures:

  • Total number of COVID-19 cases to date 295 981
  • Total recoveries 279 512
  • Total deaths 11 845
  • Total active cases (currently infected patients) 4624
  • Tests conducted 1 659 610
  • Hospitalisations 882, of which 213 are in high care or ICU

Meanwhile, 188 869 people have already been vaccinated across the provice, as local government continues to speed to up the vaccination proces of all senior residents.

The Western Cape has also recorded 8 additional deaths since last COVID-19 update on Thursday, May 3, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the province to 11 845.

During his weekly digital press conferemnce , premier Alan Winde has urge residents to stay safe over weekends as the province entered the third wave of coronavirus.

” I urge every single resident to take the necessary precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of themselves and their loved ones. We can delay its onset and flatten the curve by continuing to practice the lifesaving non-pharmaceutical interventions that we have learnt over the past year,” Winde said.
