The Western Cape’s Health Department says it aims to conclude the teacher’s vaccination rollout phase by Thursday, July 8. More than 20,000 teachers in the province have already been vaccinated so far.
As reported by EWN Health MEC Nomafrench Mbombo indicated that her department wants to wrap up teacher vaccinations by Thursday as people are streaming in from various districts.
Since the vaccination process started in early May, more than 351,000 people in Western Cape have received their vaccines already. The province’s education minister, Debbie Schäfer, also registered for the vaccine as the Western Cape government indicated that all citizens from the age of 50 and older should register themselves.

Meanwhile, in the latest provincial COVID-19 report, the Western Cape reported 20 866 active COVID-19 infections, with a total number of 328 242 confirmed cases and 294 905 recoveries, as of Friday, July 2. 48 additional deaths have also been recorded since Thursday, 1 July, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the province to 12 471.
Premier Alan Winde also reiterated that citizens should be more vigilant and ensure that they protect each other.” We know that COVID-19 is transmitted between people through liquid droplets which leave a person’s mouth or nose, and are difficult to see. This happens when you breathe, cough, sneeze, speak or sing, ” Winde said.
Winde’s plea :
- Avoiding gatherings and large crowds.
- Wearing a mask.
- Opening doors and windows to allow fresh air in.
- Maintaining a safe social distance from others.
- Ensuring that the room or vehicle you are in is well ventilated by opening windows or doors, where possible.
- Turning off fans and/or air conditioners.
