The Western Cape has 2034 active COVID-19 infections with a total of 282 174 confirmed cases and 268 616 recoveries of 1 pm April 16. A total of 53 507 out of the 53 820 vaccines received to date as part of the Sisonke trial, had been administered by 5 pm on April 15, reports Premier Alan Winde.

Here is a breakdown of the province’s COVID-19 figures:

The Western Cape has also recorded 7 additional deaths since Wednesday, April 14, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the province to 11 523. The Premier tweeted on Monday, April 19 that his meeting with the National Minister of Health, Minister Zweli Mkhize regarding the vaccine rollout programme in the Western Cape. They will also visit the Mitchell’s Plain hospital to assess the province’s readiness for the next phase of the vaccine rollout.
