A wheelchair-bound man’s body was reportedly found lying next to an ATM in a Site C garage in Khayelitsha on Friday, May 7, morning.
According to IOL, it could not be ascertained what caused his death, but a community activist Zola Sigwinti said:
“The man is said to be living within the area but people don’t say where exactly. When I arrived at the scene it seems like the man was choked because there is no blood whatsoever.
“The man seems not to be the kind of person you would rob money from or rob expensive things from. It’s just people who were taking chances because he is wheelchair-bound. Why would anyone go and kill a wheelchair-bound person who has no means to protect him or herself.”

Cases of wheelchair-bound people found dead are not rare in South Africa.
The Witness reported last month that a 46-year-old man was found dead by his mother sitting in a wheelchair with his hands tied behind his back at his Winterton home.
The report quoted police spokesperson, Captain Bonging Nyathi, of the Ladysmith police station as saying the man was murdered at the Skietdrift Farm in Winterton.
There were bruises on the man’s neck, the report said at the time.
