A case of crimen injuria has been open against a woman who called a male traffic officer an extremely offensive racial slur in Somerset West over the weekend.

The woman was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by an officer. When the vehicle was pulled over the woman allegedly began ranting.

After some time she reportedly called the traffic officer the k-word.

“The case is sub judice, so I can’t say more about her, but the lady said the k-word to a traffic officer,” said Western Cape traffic spokesperson Kenny Africa to Times Live.

“There were two vehicles pulled over and the lady was arrested and held in custody,” he said.

The woman is expected to appear in the Blue Downs magistrates court on Monday, October 7, 2019.

The provincial traffic officer who the verbal abuse was directed at is also going to file a formal complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).
