Two women were knocked over by a cab e-hailing service driver who was attempting to evade robbers, and one subsequently died. According to the South African Police Services (SAPS), a case of culpable homicide has been opened against the driver.

“The Uber driver fled the scene on foot. His vehicle was booked in exhibit. Our detectives are following up on all leads,” SAPS spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk, said.

The victims were 26 and 28 years old respectively when they were tragically knocked down by the car in Langa, and Van Wyk confirmed that three unidentified assailants attempted to rob the driver shortly before the accident occurred.

One of the victims was rushed to Groote Schuur Hospital with a severe head injury, and the other victim passed away.

Bolt (formerly Taxify) driver, Robin Dreyden, was laid to rest just over two weeks ago after he fell victim to a stabbing when picking up a customer in Langa. Another e-hailing services driver, Gift Gandari, passed away after being stabbed in Brooklyn while he was working.
