With all the obstacles that 2021 has thrown our way, current matriculant Zarret Mills reminds us that anything is possible when you dream big. Mills’ hard work and passion have landed him a spot in the Junior National Squad for the World Rowing Championships in Bulgaria, which is set to take place in August.
With an intensive training program for the last 5 months, Zarret and his team set out and raced the selection regatta where they were selected to represent South Africa at the Junior World Rowing Championships.
Dedicated to the sport for the past five years, “This is the culmination of our efforts and the pinnacle of our rowing careers, and I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity to represent my home country” Mills reported.
Talented, passionate, and hardworking, the young St Sthitian pupil faces one obstacle – funding for his trip.
“I am fortunate that a student sponsorship program facilitates my school attendance, but additional funding is vital for me to do the World Championships tour,” Mills added.
Along with his family, who like many have been affected by COVID, he humbly asks the public to assist him financially. An estimate of the cost is R95 000, this amount excludes costs for his kit R3600 and pocket money. He wishes to obtain R110 000 so that he can cover all costs, and hopefully, some pocket money, reports Good Things Guy.
