Plans to remove President Jacob Zuma from office have allegedly already been put into motion. Rumours are swirling that Zuma has been given a deadline to step down as president of the country.
According to The Star Newspaper, ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) members have said that another motion of no confidence against the president is looming if he does not comply to leave the Union Building by the time the party is expected to meet with its senior officials next Wednesday.
It will be the first meeting since the ANC welcomed Cyril Ramaphosa as its party leader. Officials within the party have raised concerns that Zuma’s presidency will divide power within the party.
Since Ramaphosa’s victory, the rand has been on its best performance and has remained strong for early January trade.
Talks to remove Zuma reportedly started at the party’s elective conference in December. According to top ANC officials, the latest ruling by the Constitutional Court, which found that Parliament failed to hold Zuma accountable about Nkandla ignited the latest discussions to remove him.
Since his presidency Zuma has already survived two motions of no confidence in the NEC and eight motions in Parliament.
