Best places to watch the sunset in Cape Town

Watching the sunset is a city-wide pastime practiced by many Capetonians. With these spots and more, who could blame us, really?

BEACH ROAD, SEA POINT

One of the most popular spots in the city to watch the sunset, owing to the pedestrian-friendly promenade with bars and restaurants across the way. A Cape Town treasure.

EDEN ON THE BAY

Eden on the Bay has a magical air about it around dusk. A gorgeous sandy beach complete with a few restaurants to ensure you have a cocktail in hand while watching the sun dip. Depending on the time of year you visit, you can witness the spectacle of the fiery orb setting behind Robben Island, illuminating the structures on it.

LION’S HEAD

Arguably the finest place in Cape Town to watch the sunset. Depending on your level of fitness, the hike usually takes around an hour to get up to the top and the reward is well worth it – a breathtaking view of the city and the exquisite sight of the sun dropping behind the Atlantic awaits.

LONG BEACH, KOMMETJIE

Sunsets from here are spectacular. If conditions are right, you might be able to see 12 foot+ waves at Sunset Reef peeling in front of the setting sun. Be sure to visit when the south-easter is at a minimum!

“Foam rocks” Kommetjie Beach is the perfect place to gaze the sunset.
