There’s no doubt that the Mother City is filled with endless attractions and sneaky sunset spots. In the hopes of helping out avid sunset watchers, here are a few secret (and not so secret) sunset spots around Cape Town.
Kloof Corner
Kloof Corner is well-known for hiking, and if you’re willing to work for it, it offers incredible panoramic views of Cape Town and is the ideal spot to watch the sunrise or sunset. The trail begins at Tafelberg Road and includes a steady incline, a path that slowly begins to zigzag, and 215 stairs that you’ll need to climb. In total, you can expect to follow this trail for approximately 30-minutes.
Clifton Ridge
There are so many incredible sunset spots along the Atlantic seaboard, but Clifton Ridge Rocks may take the cake. Considered a “hidden gem,” this spot can be accessed at the end of Clifton’s Ridge Road via a small walkway. Pull out your blanket and enjoy a glass of wine as you wait for the sun to set.
Llandudno Beach
While this incredible beach may not be a secret amongst locals, Llandudno Beach should still be on your sunset bucket list. If you love surfing, then you’ll be able to “kill two birds with one stone” as it provides the ideal conditions for surfers and sunset lovers. Llandudno is usually not too crowded, but the strong wind can be a bit of an inconvenience. Make sure you pack all your sunset goodies as there are no refreshments available at this beach.
Water’s Edge
Not only is Water’s Edge a sunset enthusiasts paradise, but it’s also a great spot for nature enthusiasts looking to enjoy some tranquillity. Nestled right next to Boulders Beach and the Penguin Viewing Site, walk along the designated path until you come across a small wooden gate. Continue to make your way down the path until you begin seeing the beach, where you’ll carefully climb down a few rocks, and you’ll soon reach your destination. Along with a gorgeous sunset, you may even catch a glimpse of a few African penguins swimming or walking about this beach.
Diaz Beach
If you’re looking to go on an adventure while learning more about Cape Town’s history, then Diaz beach should be on your radar. Located in Cape Point, this beach remains largely untouched and provides a serene location from which to enjoy the sunset. However, reaching this spot will require a bit of effort on your part, so make sure you’re ready to go on an adventure. From the parking lot, you can expect to hike for about 20-minutes. A steep set of wooden stairs will take you to this breathtaking beach.
Blue Rock Resort & Quarry
There are so many incredible sunset spots in and around Cape Town, including Somerset West’s Blue Rock Resort and Quarry. Enjoy tons of fun activities while you wait for the sun to set, including zip-lining, wakeboarding, paintballing and water skiing. It’s also the perfect spot for the entire family.
Tygerberg Nature Reserve
Located in the leafy suburb of Welgemoed in the northern suburbs, Tygerberg Nature Reserve provides spectacular panoramic views of the city. They also offer a few hiking trails that range from easy to difficult and provide a few picnic spots from which to enjoy the sunset. Having an epic view of Table Mountain doesn’t hurt either.
