If ever there was a time to visit Table Mountain it is during Summer. What better way to spend a sunny day than seeing the city from the top of the mountain? Unfortunately, everyone knows how great this and will want to do the same. Add all the visitors coming into the city during peak tourist season, and you may be waiting a while to get to the top.

The folks at Table Mountain Cableway have great tips to make your visit a lot easier:

1. Buy your tickets online

Avoid waiting in two lines, but getting your tickets online. You can buy morning tickets that are can be used 8 am – 1 pm, or afternoon tickets that are valid from 1 pm. You can get your tickets here.

2. Park and ride 

Trying to find parking on the mountain can be a nightmare. Rather than waste your time driving up and down, looking for a spot, you can park at the Lower Tafelberg Road parking, and take a free MyCiti shuttle to the Lower Cableway Station. The shuttles operate from 7 am and depart every 20 minutes.

3. Look out for special offers 

One of the benefits of going to the mountain in Summer is the great Sunset Special. From 6 pm onwards you only pay half price to go up the mountain. the promotion is on until 18 December 2016 and starts up again on 4 January 2017. If it’s your birthday, you get to go up for free all year round, and on Fridays SA senior citizens and students get a discount.

4. Beat the crowds 

You can purchase early access tickets that allow you to go up before the crowds descend. From 15 December 2016 to 15 January 2017 you can buy early access return tickets for R375. These are valid from 7:30 am. If you are not an early riser, plan to visit in the afternoon when thing are quieter.

5. Remember the virtual que 

Make sure you trip goes off without a hitch by remembering to get your boarding pass for the return trip. From 9 December 2016  until 8 January, 2017  all visitors will need to book a boarding pass for their return trip via the virtual queue kiosks set up at the Lower Cableway Station. Visitors who have hiked up can obtain their boarding pass for the trip down at the Wi-Fi Lounge.

6. Free WiFi, charging stations and snacks 

When you get to the top, of the mountain you can sit back, relax and charge your devices at the WiFi Lounge to make sure you don’t miss out on great photo opportunities. You can also connect and post right way or enjoy a snack whilst still taking in the view. Hikers can buy one-way tickets at the Wi-Fi Lounge from 19 December 2016 – 8 January 2017.

7. Pack and plan correctly

Take note that the busiest days for the cableway is 19 December and 4 January. Plan your trip around these days if you can. Make the best of your time at the top by making sure you pack right. Remember your walking shoes, sun lotion, sunnies, a warm jacket (just in case) and most importantly, your camera.
