This week has turned out to be a hot one. When the January sun is beating down on you relentlessly, your first instinct is to head to the beach. Then you remember that the sand is too hot to walk on with your bare feet, and a simple stroll to the water turns into a trek through Mordor.

Enter Strand Waterworld. This is definitely one of Cape Town’s best-kept summer secrets. Located right by the beaches of Strand, this awesome facility offers a variety of slides – all separated by lush grass, so your feet will be comfortable walking from place to place.

The Supertube will take you on a curvy ride while the Speed Slide will get your blood pumping. For the little ones, there is Midi Slide and Kiddies Speed Slide, so they can enjoy the same fun. All the slides land in pools that are solar heated, so on chilly days, the water is still comfortable.

For those who would like some drier entertainment, there is an adventure play park, kiddies play park, trampolines, jungle gyms, foefie slide and climbing wall. Since the park is sea-adjacent, you can sign-up for surf lessons and when the sun settles downs a bit, you can pop on over for some beach time.

The grassy areas are perfect for catching some sun or having a picnic. If you get hungry, the Waterside café offers a variety of sweets and treats to enjoy. There is also hot food on the menus, so you can sit down for a nice family lunch. When the kids are all fed, they can go off and have fun while you sit and relax at the undercover tables, protected from the glare of the sun and the wind.strand-waterworldIf you want to just try out a slide, you can pay for an hour or two, or get a day pass and spend the day at the park. For those who live nearby, there are family packages that will allow you in for a full season. Strand Waterworld offers really great family fun, and is the perfect way to cool off and have fun this summer!
