No swimming pool or aircon? The city says ‘no problem!’. Keeping cool this Summer shouldn’t be a problem with Cape Town’s introduction of five new recreational spray parks throughout the city.

The recreational spray parks will consist of various water spray features such as water guns and cannons, guaranteed to keep the little ones entertained in the scorching Summer sun.

If you’re worried about water restrictions, Anda Ntsodo, the city’s mayoral committee member for community services‚ says that these water parks use much less water than it takes to fill a swimming pool because the water will be re-circulated through the spray park, similar to that of a pool filtration system.

The spray parks are situated at Khayelitsha‚ Nyanga‚ Valhalla Park‚ Ocean View and Scottsville, and will feature toddler sections as well as areas for older crowds.

Cooling off this Summer in Cape Town seems like no problem at all.

Adults stop being selfish and going on about who’s going to pay the bill and water restrictions etc. Think about how much the kids are going to enjoy it.

So great that the water will be circulated to avoid wastage. And so wonderful for the community! Way to go, City of Cape Town!

The water gets recirculated….so it goes through some kind of piping system that treats it… like how a swimming pool does so there’s no water wastage

This is ridiculous. The world, never mind south Africa is in a crises over water. Yes the water will be recirculated, but plenty of water will evaporate.
So many people in your country don’t have access to clean water. Money should be used for that. This is a joke.

To all the people complaining: most of the children who will use these parks are from the poorest communities and are unable to afford or get to either a swimming pool or a beach. The spray parks cost a fraction to operate than a swimming pool. Please do not deny the children the pleasure they will get from these facilities during our very hot summer.
