As South Africans fight the winter cold and a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, many are retreating indoors and spending more time at home. In light of this, we’re looking at a few ways you can spice up your decor for winter and make your space a cosy hibernation chamber.

Bring Nature Inside

There’s nothing that brightens and warms a space more than adding some lush greenery. Bringing your pot plants inside provides the added benefit of improving your health, especially when it comes to colds and flu. A study recently found that adding plants to your space can help decrease fatigue, colds, headaches and flu-like symptoms – what better reason to add a touch of Mother Nature to your home.

The Rug Life

Rugs in winter are a godsend, especially if your space has tiles or other similar floorings. Not only will investing in a few rugs warm your space (literally), it will add a natural cosy element to your decor along with some colour and texture that will leave your feet feeling snug.

Colour Us Crazy

If you can, adding a splash of colour to your walls is a great way to add a cosy element to your home. Neutral colours such as grey or a brighter shade such as Pantone’s Colour of the Year Illuminating yellow are great additions to you’re looking for some va va voom this winter.

Lamps Galore

Additional lighting can add a certain ambience to your home, warming your space in the process. Play with different lighting options such as soft and warm diffused light, which will help create height and a welcoming atmosphere in your home.

Add Some Blankets

There’s nothing that we love more than a thick, furry blanket to keep us warm during those winter months. Draping a few of these bad boys over your couches or chairs adds a bit of warmth and texture to your home. Not to mention it’s perfect for those nights when Netflix is the only option.
