I’ve always wanted to be as close to the stars as possible, writes Cape {town} Etc’s Ashleigh Nefdt. For me, the moments that take my breath away the most are when I’m high off the ground, touching the sunset, or immersed in the clouds.
So when I received the invitation to stay at The Halyard on one of the top floors, no less, I was utterly enthralled with the idea of life in the sky.
And that is exactly what I experienced.
I’ll walk you through it.
Soaring to the 23rd floor, I felt like I was in an elevator to heaven. Once I opened the door to my temporary home, I was convinced of the latter.
The great space was what initially caught my attention. It’s where art can come alive, creativity can flourish, life can be felt. The distinction between an all-the-boxes-ticked corporate retreat, and a back-to-the-drawing-board business meet. The space breathes life into the apartment, allowing you to truly take in every inch of it.

Kitchen.
The food preparation area is something any top chef would be thrilled to operate in. If you aren’t much of a cook, I guarantee you’ll want to be one. Sleek, nifty and equipped with all your foodie-preparation requirements. From the Nespresso machine to the high-tech stove, you will become Gordon Ramsay after your stay at the Halyard.
Dining area.
A metal gin bar combined with the gorgeous food prep area sets the ultimate scene for everything from private family dinners, birthdays, to full-on corporate shindigs (when we are allowed to enjoy those again, of course). You may even feel like The Great Gatsby at a point as you leave your gathering to step out on the balcony and enjoy the distinct views of the green light singing to you from the docks.
Bedrooms and bathrooms.
From my stay, I can confess that I will never want to wake up to any other view again. The gorgeously designed bedrooms are the picture of luxury shaking hands with ideal comfort. Allow the city to sing you to sleep after you close the curtains on Cape Town’s finest views.
The bathrooms are equally elegant. Who doesn’t love soaking in a tub whilst watching the sun hide behind the city’s skyline? It was an experience that was unforgettable.
The views.
I’ve mentioned the views a few times, but that’s only because it’s the Mother City, and how often do we get to gaze down at her instead of the inverse?
Even if views aren’t your thing, the striking nature of the vantage points enjoyed by The Halyard apartments will still take your breath away. Choose between ocean vistas and harbour scenes, or mountain panoramas and cityscapes. Whichever way you turn, your life will be more beautiful.
The Location.
Cape Town is one of the best-loved cities in the world. She allows you enthralling experiences from the moment you set foot on the tarmac. As such, staying somewhere central is
key. The Halyard is about as central as it gets. When you book a stay there, you are within easy distance of the Zeitz MOCAA, bustling Silo District, the V&A Waterfront, CTICC, convivial co-working such as Workshop 17, and the Artscape Theatre.
