The world has a new obsession, and we’re not talking about the latest Netflix series Sex Life. Micro-apartments have gripped the world’s attention thanks to their affordability factor, and Cape Town property developers seem to be getting the hint. In an effort to give the people what they want, buildings dedicated to this property movement have been cropping up all over the city, and The Barracks is the latest addition.
According to Business Insider, the new development is set to be an upmarket mixed-use space for commercial and residential use and is located in the heart of Cape Town’s CBD, with 64 micro-apartments up for grabs. However, a number of one- and two-bedroom units will also be available.
Get your cheque books out because prices will range from around R1.7 million for a studio, R2.4 million for one-bedroom and R3.8 million for two bedrooms states Seeff Property Group, who will be marketing these units.
Buyers will get a piece of history as the development includes the restoration of a historic building and a new modern building on top, a first for South Africa, reports Business Insider.
The historic building in question is a 1767 warehouse that formed part of the Lutheran Church complex, which served as a military barracks (hence the name) from 1785 and later as storage for wine and wheat.
History meets contemporary as the modern aspect of the development will include a rooftop lifestyle centre that will offer various amenities, including a pilates/yoga studio, a refreshment bar, a 12.5-metre lap pool and treatment rooms. Along with these incredible features, apartments will also enjoy spectacular views of Table Mountain, Signal Hill and Greenpoint Stadium.
