We have some incredible designers right here in the Cape. One such designer is Kristen Weixelbaumer, founder of Black Betty and Black Gold jewellery. We caught up with Kristen to find about why she loves living in the Mother City.
1 How does Cape Town influence your designs?
Most of my inspiration comes from being in Cape Town’s nature. I am either kitesurfing, SUPPING, swimming in her seas and exploring her forests and mountains almost daily. Also the amount of rocking entrepreneurs showing their incredible talents keeps me frothing – from the incredible restaurants to the beautiful products by local designers. We are so very lucky – we honestly live in the best city in the world.
2 What do you love most about this city?
It’s nature.
3 If your friend was visiting Cape Town for the first time, where would you take them first?
Up Lions Head, followed by a swim in the sea with breakfast at one of my locals.
4 Describe the city in three words.
Sea. Mountain. City.
5 If you were to create a souvenir that represents Cape Town, what would it be or look like?
I’m going to have to say our Polki Diamonds from our ECLIPSE Collection. The natural markings of these raw diamond beauties remind me of the ever moving sea vs the structural mountains. Also the fact that they are diamonds wrapped in gold (which RSA is known for 😉

Hoezit.
