After graduating with a law and literature degree from the University of Cape Town, Ambra Gambale moved to London where she pursued creative arts at Central Saint Martins and Inchbald School of Design. But in 2012, on her return to South Africa, the young graduate decided to start her own jewellery line Ambra Fine Jewellery.
Through melding practicality with inventiveness, Ambra creates alternative yet enchanting accessories. Much of her inspiration is found in her dreams and the design process provides her with a platform to express her emotions and thoughts. One look at her collections and you’ll easily be enchanted – especially given the magic realism of the themes of each. Common features in her items are taken from nature, including dragonfly wings and hexagons.
Her newest range, Charmed, consists of charms, rings, necklaces, stud earrings and bracelets, all of which can be tailored to the wearer’s taste. Each piece exudes ladylike, sensual and avant-garde flair with a hint of dreaminess.
Although Ambra continuously incorporates diamonds in her designs, she also made use of pyrite, hematite and black onyx beads for the new range.
Clients have the opportunity to use these materials to fashion their own bracelets and necklaces on the Ambra Fine Jewellery website. Bracelets can be made from pyrite, hematite and black onyx while necklaces can be made from 9- or 18-carat rose-, yellow- or white-gold.
