Cape Town is known for its creativity, local products and diverse businesses. The Mother City has so much to see and to offer. We chatted to Gaynor Walkey, the owner and founder of Granny Goose Duvets, a proudly Capetonian luxury brand.
1 How does Cape Town influence your personality and style?
My wardrobe has two distinctive seasons. One for hot summers and one for cool winters. Capetonians are seasonal creatures, I think we all have two sides to match the weather. One that likes to stay indoors around a fire with a mug of hot chocolate and the other who loves outdoor adventures.
2 What do you love most about this city?
Everything you need to be happy and have fun is within close reach of home: great food, entertainment and outdoor activities. The diversity of culture and landscapes means there is always something new to look forward to experiencing.
3 If your friend was visiting Cape Town for the first time, where would you take them first?
The beach! Especially the less frequented West Coast where, sometimes if you are lucky, you could have the whole snow white sand beach to yourself.
4 Describe the city in three words.
Delicious, diverse, plentiful.
5 If you were to create a souvenir that represents Cape Town, what would it be or look like?
Probably a photobook. There are just too many places of natural beauty to make one simple souvenir.
6 What’s your favourite Cape catchphrase?
Local is lekker – all you need in life is right here.
7 Three Capetonians we should be following online.
I like tourism pages and blogs that are Cape Town oriented: on Facebook –I <3 Cape Town, Cape Town’s Darling and Cape Town Etc.
