Kate-Mason

GET COMFY WITH KATE MASON
The Kate Mason Collection is a lovely line of locally produced cushions, including an African Shwe Shwe collection, the recently launched Beach House Range and a number of hand-crocheted cushions (providing extra income for the women who spend hours making each one).
Kate says she was inspired to launch a cushion collection after spending so much time sourcing materials for Grandt Mason Originals, the vegan footwear line she co-owns with her brother, Grandt.

sootcookie

SWEET AS A SOOTCOOKIE
Sootcookie is a play on ‘soet koekie’, meaning ‘sweet biscuit’ in Afrikaans, reflecting that this quirky range is baked in a kiln and draws inspiration from South Africa’s diverse visual landscape. Based in Hout Bay, Sootcookie was started in 2009 by Tanya Laing, and her animals in particular have developed a devoted following.
Simultaneously loveable and ambiguous, Sootcookie’s famous ceramic bunny or ‘Space Bunny’ is so likeable for its gold lustre face and youthful personality. Each bunny is hand-finished and has a sense of individual character.

BOOKS RE-INVENTED BY KERI MULLER
A lover of all things old and new, Keri Muller of Simple Intrigue is a true creative who explores different media, shapes and styles. She folds, glues, tears and cuts, transforming mere paper and old books into captivating artworks, origami shapes and abstract pieces.
Keri is able to take a simple shape or object, and recreate it into something interesting and unique, just like this Africa Re-invented origami sculpture. Made from old books destined for the recycling pile, the shape is given new life. ‘My preferred medium is salvaged books from the recycling or landfill sites around Cape Town. Pieces vary in size from small pop-up books to larger wall-hung pieces right up to site specific installations.’
