Google has launched a brand new feature tailored to its South African users: a feature which will help job seekers find employment opportunities.
According to Google, the new job search experience, called Grow with Google, launched today in SA, Kenya and Nigeria, and will build on Google’s existing commitment in Sub-Saharan Africa to improve economic opportunities for job-seekers and employers.
The feature will allow for job-seekers to search for specific jobs and refine their search requirements. This will include selecting a specific employer, company type and job title for a more streamlined job-search experience. The feature will also allow users to get email notifications when any new jobs matching their custom search pop up.
To use this feature, simply type “jobs” into your Google bar.
The feature will also integrate Google Maps, which will tell job-seekers how long their commute to their potential place of work will be each day.
Google is also inviting all job sites, employers and job-aggregating platforms to integrate with the search engine to display available positions in the job search engine. Users will be able to quickly glance over details about the posting, and click for more extensive details if the eligible position interests them.
“As this is an open ecosystem, Google is inviting all job sites, platforms and employers — big and small — to integrate with us and make their jobs eligible to display in the new jobs search experience,” Google said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the statement, these collaborations will ensure that Google is able to present job postings accurately and instantaneously, to help the right people find the right job.
Following the launch of this feature in the United States of America in 2016 and its subsequent success, the new job feature is a welcome initiative in South Africa.
The current unemployment rate in the country stands at 26.7%, which means just over a quarter of South Africans seeking jobs.
