Most entry-level cars offer the very bare minimum: petite dimensions that make long-distance travelling something of a tight squeeze, roll-up windows and no aircon. But not Suzuki’s Celerio, the ‘xtra-large small hatch’ that is replacing the popular Alto hatchback.
Sporting a modern design and very clearly larger in dimensions than its predecessor (and most other micro-hatches in its class), the Celerio is a first-time car buyer’s dream. With a low entry price (it costs less than R160 000!), air-conditioning, dual airbags, ABS brakes, Bluetooth, electric front windows and central locking, it truly is value for money.
But that’s not where the value ends. The Celerio also features a large luggage compartment and is the first Suzuki model to sport the manufacturer’s new automated gearbox, Automated Gear Shift (AMT). This essentially means you’ll have clutchless operation of a manual gearbox that still provides all the energy associated with a manual car.
