Cape Town author, Beryl Crosher-Segers, has gained popularity in Australia for her most recent publication on the memoir of life in the Mother City under Apartheid rule. The book has taken the number one spot on the Amazon Bestselling list in Australia.
The book is called ‘A Darker Shade of Pale‘ and focuses on the life of a mixed raced individual in South Africa during Apartheid. Segers paints a stark picture of the injustices, humiliation and challenges under the Apartheid regime – the story provides a feel good narrative to facing the atrocities of the world and that love can be found in the shadow of hate. Segers immigrated to Australia in 1988 and has been named one of Australia’s most influential South Africans.
South Africans are making us proud across the world – being noticed and acclaimed for the creative work and discipline – sharing our stories of hope and resilience.
Segers is thrilled to be honoured, “I am so humbled by the ongoing support from everyone. This is my story, but it’s also the story of so many others during that exceptional time.”
The book is available in Exclusive Books and Bargain Book stores nationwide. Segers says that South Africa’s story must be shared. “While apartheid ended, the effect it had is still visible, certainly on the Cape Flats, and around the country. It is important that stories like mine are told, so they do not become forgotten – and so that we can evolve as a society.”
