The streets of Cape Town came alive on Tuesday as “Tweede Nuwe Jaar” Celebrations got underway. Many Capetonians braved the humid and windy weather conditions to see over 60 Minstrals perform.
The parade drew around 60 000 – 100 000 people with locals and tourist kept entertained by local artists including actor and singer Austin Rose who performed on the day.

It was a festive mood as minstrels came out in their numbers with children dressed to impress with its infamous bedazzled costumes and flamboyant performances.

Mayoral Committee member JP Smith Said, “that many have a vision of this street parade growing and becoming an event that will reach an international audience – where people from around the world travel to Cape Town especially to celebrate our city’s history and culture. With the right people and effort th Cape Town Street Parade has the potential to be bigger and grander than ever before, while still maintaining its cultural heritage.”
