Whether you’ve hopped on the ‘braai day’ train or prefer a more contemplative commemoration of Heritage Day, here are some ideas to celebrate it.
Weinhaus + Biergarten National Braai Day party
Good food, great wine, a bevvy of craft beers and live music? Sign us up. With meat supplied by artisan butcher Frankie Fenner, and Jason Lilley (aka Captain Bread) at the grill, this is one braai you don’t want to miss. The party begins at midday on the 24th.
Go back in time
Cape Town’s rich history is documented at a number of excellent museums around the city. In case you missed it, we’ve narrowed down our top five here. Grab the family and spend the morning exploring the Mother City’s heritage at one or more of them.
Meet the team
The Boks are deep in preparation for their match on Saturday (by the way, have you entered our competition to win tickets?). But you can meet the Springbok Sevens today at the Springbok Experience Rugby Museum. Coach Neil Powell, skipper Kyle Brown and the team will be donating one of the jerseys in which they won Commonwealth Games gold to the museum’s collection, and you can interact with them between noon and 1 pm.
Be a tourist in your own city
Head up Table Mountain, take a boat to Robben Island for the first time, do a cooking tour of the Bo-Kaap or just make a plan to tick all of our CTE.com-approved must-sees off your list. Sometimes there’s nothing more inspiring than seeing your city with fresh eyes.
Eat local
Not braaiing? Then might we suggest a taste of our culinary heritage at one of these proudly South African eateries.
BONUS! Party where you are
You usually use Uber to get to and from the party, but today Uber is bringing the party to you. Open your app, request a ‘performance’, and you could be one of three lucky winners who score a free, private 15-minute show by a troop of colourful, gees-full Cape Minstrel Singers – wherever you are!
