Born and bred in the Western Cape, Nathan Adriaanse is a dancer whose career has taken him around the globe. He’s been in advertisements and various productions, including the Whitney Houston World Tribute Show and Michael Jackson History Tribute Show. Here are his thoughts on his favourite city in the world – Cape Town.

1 How does Cape Town influence and inspire you and your work?
Cape Town has really been my centre of creativity and inspiration. I am blessed to be able to see quite a bit of the world – from small quirky villages to large modern cities, yet nothing inspires me more like than the Mother City. For me, Cape Town is one of the most colourful, cultural, beautiful and creative cities I’ve experienced. All this diversity in one city really feeds a creative soul to be even more innovative.

2 What do you love most about this city?
It has to be the feeling I get after not being home for months. Hearing my people’s accents, the view of the city bowl and Table Mountain from the airplane window, walking in Long Street under the hot Cape sun and, of course, I love my beach days spent on Clifton 4th – these moments are everything.

3 If your friend was visiting Cape Town for the first time, where would you take them?
I’d take them to Kalkys in Kalk Bay. The food is great and the vibe is so Capetonian. I would also take them on a hike up Lion’s Head and Table Mountain, and most definitely let my friend explore the wine route in Stellenbosch.

4 Describe the city in three words.
My favourite city.

5 If you were to create a souvenir that represents Cape Town, what would it be or look like?
It would be the back of a mini van taxi and on the window, it would state ‘Drive it like its stolen’.

6 What’s your favourite Cape catchphrase?
It has to be from the Joe Barber theatre production‘It’s not daddy, daddy, come quick here!’. [Laughs.]

7 Three Capetonians we should be following online?
Brandon Pieterson, Hoze Jonas and Lyle Adams.
