Professional racing car driver David Perel lives life in the fast lane, but that does not mean he can’t slow down to appreciate life around him. After entering the motorsport world at 15, David won local and national championships, worked hard to fund his passion and now drives for Kessel Ferrari.

We caught up with David to find out what he thinks about the Mother City.

1 When you’re not on the road and are in Cape Town, how does the city inspire/influence you?

It’s without question the most beautiful place in the world. You can drive 20 minutes in any direction and the environment around you changes to anything you see overseas. This place is special. I’ve been lucky to grow up near the ocean my whole life and even though I don’t enjoy swimming in it, I do enjoy staring at it in the mornings.

2 What do you love most about this city?

I love the culture in Cape Town. I love the people, I love the friendliness. Summers are great here as well (though we could do with less traffic!)

3 If your friend was visiting Cape Town for the first time, where would you take them first?

A walk on the Sea Point promenade during sunset.

4 Describe the city in three words.

Vibrant, fun, dynamic

5 If you were to create a souvenir that represents Cape Town, what would it be or look like?

No idea! I’m no good with present giving.

6 What’s your favourite Cape catchphrase?

Easy, ‘Aweh Bru!’
