One of the biggest pop-culture conventions is finally coming to South Africa.
That’s right, Comic-Con Africa is officially a go and will make its long-awaited debut later this year.
Comic-Con is a massive convention that celebrates comic books, movies, TV shows, Video Games, Science Fiction, Cosplay, Anime, Fantasy literature and other forms of Geek popular culture in one place.
Convention-goers scramble to attend panels which usually feature movie/TV stars, film producers, comic book artists, video game developers and writers. The convention is also filled with pop-culture memorabilia including fan art, crafted statues, merchandise and cosplayers – who frolic around in stunning costumes.
Unfortunately Comic-Con Africa won’t be coming to Cape Town, but they will be in Johannesburg from September 14-16, 2018 at the Kyalami International Convention Centre.
V/S Gaming and Reed Exhibitions will be bringing the convention to South Africa, and well-known celebrities will make appearances.
Reed Exhibitions’ Carol Weaving says that they are in talks to bring stars from popular television shows Game of Thrones and The Big Bang Theory to the convention.
“Our time is now and we are very excited about this. Comic-Con is known for bringing in celebrities and it takes a lot of planning we are still in discussions with celebs from Game of Thrones and Big Bang Theory,” Weaving said.
However, Weaving confirmed that actors Nolan North and Troy Baker will be coming to the convention. Both actors are known for their acclaimed voice work in popular video games such as Assassin’s Creed, Uncharted and Batman.
North voices The Penguin in the Batman Arkham series, while Baker voices the infamous Joker in the prequel game, Batman: Arkham Origins.
Cape Town also has its very own Comic-Con in the form FanCon, which will be celebrating its third year from 28 – 29 April 2018.
