If a relaxed walk through a lush garden doesn’t sound too exciting, why not kick it up a notch? There are a few hiking trails that take you around Table Mountain.
The Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway:
Affectionately nicknamed the Boomslang trail, this walkway is a curved steel and timber bridge that weaves its way over the Arboretum trees. This walkway takes visitors on a journey from the forest floor, through the trees and finally making its way above the canopy. It offers incredible panoramic views of Cape Town’s mountains and the Cape Flats.
Birdwatching:
Is there anything more relaxing than the sweet chirp-chirps of birds? Thanks to the endless trees that line this garden, there are a vast array of birds. The best spot for avid birdwatchers, you can find owls, guinea fowl, and sugarbirds.
Relax and have a picnic:
If relaxing is on the agenda, then opt for a delicious picnic. Grab your blanket, snacks and juice, and spread yourself out on the lush lawn. Kirstenbosch also offers a number of restaurants and cafes if picnicking is not your thing.
Cycad Amphitheatre:
This is a real treat for the kids (or adults). Scattered among the cycads are life-sized sculptures of dinosaurs. There’s also a sculpture garden that includes a constantly changing African stone sculpture exhibition by Dylan Lewis.
