‘ I often start off with a painting wondering where the story will unfold, so place is important whether real or imagined.’
Kirsten Sims will be showcasing her first solo exhibition entitled The Middle of Nowhere. Through her art, she explores the notion of being in ‘the middle of nowhere’.
This idea is not a conceptualisation of deserted places or off the map dorpies that take on a physical form, but, for the most part, are imagined moments in times, conversations, memories, and observations.
Her work is typically described as exaggerated, whimsical and playful – where she expresses her good-natured opinions on society and the world we live in.
She describes each picture as an unfolding story, where the seemingly ordinary are given a curious, whimsical twist.
