Musician Sam Smith has touched the hearts of many through his lyrics, but one South African super fan will never forget his performance after he uploaded a video of her singing at his Joburg concert.
In a heartfelt post, Smith said: My anxiety has been really intense the last few days and my friend sent me this video and it has cheered me up so much!! Whoever you are, I wish we could’ve met last night!! You are wonderful xx thank you for coming to the show ?❤️
Pranusha Moodley, who is from Ladysmith in KZN but lives in Johannesburg, didn’t even know she was being filmed and was astonished when she heard about the video, that was posted to Smith’s 12.2-million followers.
“An ex-colleague called and Whatsapped me on Monday evening,” said Moodley. She said she felt humbled by and shy at his acknowledgment. “It was so special.”
Moodley admits she is a super fan. “Sam Smith has an incredible stage presence, you feel his passion for singing and his love for his band. Having the opportunity to watch him live was a tick for the bucket list, he lived up to my expectations. Just want to say thanks to him and his band and may he soar to even greater heights.”
Some parting advice for Smith from Moodley: “Living, breathing and being healthy is a privilege, worrying is wasted energy just enjoy being in the moment.”
Smith has been posting Instastories detailing his anxiety while here in South Africa. This last leg in Cape Town will conclude his world tour.
Yesterday, the 26-year-old soul sensation left fans wanting more when, after performing hits such as Dancing With A Stranger and Omen, the show was stopped midway. A voice announcement said, “Bear with us while we have some technical difficulties.”
Big Concerts cancelled the concert shortly thereafter, and said in a tweet: “Sam Smith’s CPT concert tonight has been cancelled. Unfortunately Sam Smith took strain to his voice & had to stop his performance. Ticket holders will be contacted directly. We will keep you posted with more info for the other CPT performances as it becomes available.”
There is still no news about whether tonight’s concert will go ahead as scheduled.
