Sam Smith fans were left disappointed when the British singer stopped his first ever Cape Town show after 45 minutes due to a strain on his vocal chords.
The 26-year-old soul sensation left fans in the dark after performing hits such as Dancing With A Stranger and Omen before he left the stage. A voice announcement came on shortly afterwards, saying, “Bear with us while we have some technical difficulties.”
The event organisers, Big Concerts, released an official statement via their Twitter account.
Sam Smith’s CPT concert tonight has been cancelled. Unfortunately Sam Smith took strain to his voice & had to stop his performance. Ticket holders will be contacted directly. We will keep you posted with more info for the other CPT performances as it becomes available.

It is yet unclear whether this will affect the remaining dates of Smith’s Cape Town leg of his tour.
